Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for the delivery of a complete and comprehensive estimate based on the scope of work to be performed and prepares and summarizes the contract execution to include project costs (labor, material and equipment costs), assumptions and exclusions, and timeframe to final contract delivery.  Position will identify and source project opportunities within assigned area to increase market presence, specifically airport runways and taxiways which are valued greater than $200k to $1B.  This position reports to the National Accounts Manager and will require up to 30% travel throughout the U.S.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and competitively estimate a variety of general heavy civil construction projects ensuring all aspects of the project are documented and have considered all risk factors prior to bid submittal.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate and highlight areas of concern.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.  Develop pricing and work with Corporate Procurement to secure vendor pricing.
  • Maintain database with current contact information for subcontractors and vendors.  Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers.
  • Update external Company website with current bid information and maintain and review DOT/Bid Services websites for potential projects.  Requests quotations, organizes, reviews and logs quotes received.
  • Participates in bid review meetings with appropriate staff and customers and performs post-bid analysis.  Assists with cost control system set-up and participates in project hand-off meetings.
  • Create and foster a positive Company image by establishing a good working relationship with clients, potential clients, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develop and identify prospective projects by establishing and maintaining effective contact with current and potential clients and referral leads and review all bid opportunities and submittals.
  • Visit project sites to observe job progression and customer interface.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate and supports other department personnel as required.

 

Job Requirements

  • BS degree in Construction Management or Engineering (Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Systems or related field). Combination of technical training and direct industry experience in lieu of educational requirements will be considered.
  • 5 - 8 years' of heavy highway and/or airport construction related experience with a minimum of 3 years' of direct estimating.  Previous infrastructure construction experience in airport, runway, mainline grinding, or bridge demolition a plus.
  • Ability to interpret DOT rules and regulations.
  • Intermediate to advance MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience with estimating software (i.e. B2W) and scheduling software (i.e. P6) a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for project site visits and customer interface.
  • Ability to conceptualize the project schedule from project start through completion, including sequence/phasing of work.
  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and work in a high energy, fast paced, ever changing environment.
  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are required.
